How To Create Spa Moments For Someone You Love

How you can make an everlasting impression on someone you truly care for with a thoughtful gift!

spa getawaysI am sure all of us had those memorable experiences in life, moments of bliss, special moments, which we always remember and fondly revisit. For me, one of those memories has been a spa moment in Maui, Hawaii.

What is interesting about my experience is the fact that I hardly remember anything else during this one week in Maui 5 years ago. Yes, I remember walks on the beach, the snorkeling, the breeze of the ocean, the smells and flowers on this beautiful island. What I remember with absolute clarity though is that morning at the ‘Grand Wailea Spa' on Maui, down to every detail, because it was such an amazing experience.

I remember the check-in, the attendant's desk, the water circuit, the open windows with an ocean breeze gently circulating through the spa areas, the heated robe being draped around my shoulders, the experience of getting a complimentary scrub by an attendant while waiting for the massage, the walk up the stairs to a waiting area, which was an outside area overlooking the ocean, the chilled cucumber water, then the exquisite massage, it was sublime and I felt worthy and great.
In today's fast pace world, filled with fears and stress, those types of spa experiences are what life is all about. To take a moment, step back, look at our crazy lives from a place of detachment and invite those, who we love to share this exquisite time of spa bliss and caring and giving back to our very deserving, yet beaten bodies.

As a massage therapist I hear people's stories and reasons or special occasions for having massages or body treatments.
This last week it was all about mothers taking out their daughters for graduation and sharing a mother/daughter day at the spa. I could tell that this was a very special day for those involved and will be probably remembered forever.
Sometimes I massage someone in their 70ies or 80ies and discover that they are in the process of receiving their first professional massage of their life. Usually they cannot believe what they have missed out on in their life time.

My husband treated me to a surprise getaway at a Hotel & Spa in Carmel, California for our 10th wedding anniversary. We stayed at a beautiful hotel near the beach and had a couple's massage together. He had planned the whole trip - usually it's me who does the planning - and did not tell me at the beginning of our anniversary weekend where we were going. The whole experience was so special to me, something I will never forget.

A spa package as a gift for someone you love has the potential for creating a totally unique and memorable experience, more than a gift of clothing or  anything material could ever be. My observation is that the recipient typically feels appreciated and validated in ways that other gifts don't as easily manage to accomplish.

Other special occasions can be a surprise birthday spa getaway, getting together with your best friend once a year at a spa, because you both don't live in the same area anymore, getting together with your bridesmaids before the wedding, celebrating a special birthday, for Valentine's Day, also giving a spa gift to someone who is the caregiver of someone ill in the family, as a thank you to a new mother or father by the in-laws. There are numerous occasions when a spa gift can be just what the other person needs and appreciates.

So don't wait, until you are 75 years old to receive your first massage. Life is too short, and our tired bodies need care and attention. Express your love and care for each other, which can be that special spa moment of bliss!
