Summer Detox
Now that summer is here and you still feel sluggish and tired, it might be time for a summer detox cleanse. This can be
achieved by cleansing the body's internal organs as well as the skin. Both methods will lead to results and it is most effective to work on all levels of the body. Detoxify your body regularly and you can feel a surge of fresh and renewed energy running through your system, which makes you feel alive and well. Now is a good time to establish a routine.
Why is this so important?
Our exposure to toxins has tremendously increased during the last 50 years. While the body is designed to handle many toxins through elimination via our digestive, urinary, respiratory, circulatory and lymphatic systems, it is clearly challenged in handling today's pollutants. We are exposed to too much processed and complex food, too much caffeine, sugars, medicines, alcohol, polluted water and air. The body's organs are on overload. As a result we face issues of constipation, low energy, fatigue, depression, hormone imbalances, challenges to the central nervous system, sinus problems. The liver playing a vital part in detoxification of the body, isn't managing the processing of toxins and fats any more, then the gall bladder gets backed up and the result is constant tiredness and a lack of passion for life.
How can we support our internal organs?
In order to have a healthy digestion and liver, we can eat foods that promote detoxification and make the food particles move through our systems effortlessly by
--eating small meals several times a day versus huge plates
--eating organic fresh fruits and vegetables several times a day
--drinking green juices such as wheatgrass juice
--drinking fresh juices, like apple, beet, carrot and ginger juice
--drinking hot herbal teas such as ginger tea, fennel tea, lemon tea, Echinacea tea or detox blends
--drinking hot potassium broth
Look to attend classes on healthy recipes and cooking; you might find some interesting choices at a nearby community college or at your local health food restaurant. You might also be interested to attend a weekend or a 7 day retreat at a destination spa. Here you are part of a group, get coaching on how internal cleansing works, eat healthy, learn how to prepare healthy meals, participate in outdoor activities and receive spa treatments.
Either way, you can easily set up a program at home or visit a specialty spa.
How can we get rid of toxins externally, though the skin?
We can detox through increased activity and workout to help stimulate the lymphatic and circulatory systems by participating in exercises such as
Yoga, Pilates, Hiking, Biking, Swimming, Jogging or Walking.
We can schedule regular Aromatherapy massages or Lymphatic Drainage massages to specifically promote blood flow below the skin's surface. Detoxifying Aromatherapy Oils are ginger, lemon, grapefruit or juniper berry for example.
Another road to successful detoxification is by sweating out the toxins through the skin.
We can visit a day spa to ‘sweat it out' in a Sauna or Steam Room, take hot baths at home with some added drops of essential oils. Very helpful to remove toxins from the skin's tissue is by getting a mud wrap at a spa.
So Detoxification can be easily achieved, either at home or at a spa and doesn't have to be limited through fasting or being on a bland diet. It sounds like a big word, but really shouldn't be keeping you from getting started, NOW!
